This time Mahashivaratri is considered very special, because on this day many rare combinations of yoga are taking place, in which the worship of Shiva-Parvati will give double results.

Shivratri and Pradosh Vrat are very dear to Lord Shiva. This year, on the day of Mahashivratri itself, Shani Pradosh Vrat is coinciding. Mahashivaratri 2023 date and auspicious time for worship


According to the Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi of Phalgun month will start from 8.02 pm on 17th February and end at 4.18 pm on 18th February. In such a situation, keeping in view the Udaya Tithi, this year the festival of Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18, 2023.


Since Shiva is worshiped during Shivaratri at midnight (Nishita Kaal Muhurta) and during the four hours of the night, devotees this year get a special opportunity to please Bholenath on the day of Mahashivratri i.e. from sunrise on February 18 to sunrise on the next day, February 19. Worshiping Lord Shiva for the whole 24 hours will be very fruitful.


Auspicious time of Mahashivaratri and Pradosh Vrat


The Chaturdashi Tithi of Mahashivaratri will start on February 18, 2023 at 08:02 PM and end on February 19, 2023 at 04:18 PM.


Time of Nishita Kaal - February 18, from 11.52 pm to 12.42 pm


First hour worship time - February 18, from 06.40 pm to 09.46 pm


Second hour worship time - from 09.46 to 12.52 in the night


Third hour worship time - February 19, from 12:52 pm to 03:59 pm


Fourth hour worship time - February 19, from 03:59 am to 07:05 am


Time of Paran - February 19, 2023, from 06.10 am to 02.40 pm


Pradosh Vrat will start on 17 February 2023, Friday, at 11.36 pm and will end on 18 February 2023, Saturday, at 08.02 pm.


According to Udayatithi, Pradosh Vrat will be observed on 18th February only. The worship time for Shani Pradosh Vrat will be from 06.13 pm to 08.02 pm.



Mahashivratri fasting method


On the day of Mahashivratri, wake up early in the morning, take a bath  and take a pledge to fast in front of Lord Shankar with full devotion.

Seek the blessings of Lord Shiva to complete the fasting period during Sankalp.

Apart from this, take a resolution as to how you will keep the fast, that is, fruit-eating or waterless.


Worship method of Mahashivratri


To worship on Mahashivaratri, first bath Lord Shankar with Panchamrit.Offer milk, ghee, sugar, honey, curd and Ganga water with devotion.

Offering saffron mixed water will be very auspicious.

Also offer 8 pots of saffron water and light a lamp for the whole night. Apart from this, apply sandalwood tilak.

Belpatra, Bhang, Dhatura are the most favorite offerings of Bholenath.

That's why offer three belpatra, cannabis, dhatura, nutmeg, lotus gatta, fruits, sweets, sweet paan, perfume and dakshina.

Do not offer Tulsi, Kevda water, Ketaki flower, coconut water on Shivling.

After all, distribute prasad to everyone by offering kheer containing saffron.


It is considered very auspicious to offer kheer and banana to Lord Shiva on this day. Light the lamp. Chant Om Namah Shivay mantra 108 times after Abhishek.

 Also chant the mantras Om Namah Shivaya Rudraya Shambhavaya Bhavanipataye Namo Namah.[ ॐ नमः शिवाय रूद्राय् शम्भवाय् भवानीपतये नमो नमः]


 Do read Shiv Puran on this day. Night vigil is also done on the day of Mahashivaratri.

According to Shivpuran, Lord Shiva first appeared in the form of Shivling on the date of Mahashivaratri. It is believed that the Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva was revealed on this day only.


 For this reason, Mahashivaratri is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. Apart from this, the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati took place on Falgun Krishna Chaturdashi, for this reason Mahashivaratri is also celebrated.


It is believed that by observing fast on Mahashivaratri and worshiping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the problems in married life go away and a person's married life remains successful.
