In the Indian worship tradition, coconut holds immense significance. It is considered a symbol of prosperity and Lakshmi, which is why it is referred to as "Shreefal." Whether it is the worship of Goddess Durga, Goddess Kali, or Goddess Lakshmi, coconut is used with special importance in every ritual.

When you look at a coconut, it has two eyes and a mouth, and if you observe a brown coconut, its shape resembles a human skull. This is why coconut is symbolically offered as a form of sacrifice in rituals. The water, kernel, and shell of the coconut are used in different ways during worship. When we offer a coconut to the deities, it symbolizes our devotion and surrender.

Special Use of Coconut During Navratri

Coconut is specially used during Navratri. On the first day of Navratri, take a coconut and tie it with a protective thread (Rakhi) or a sacred thread (Mouli) around it. Then, place this coconut either at the feet of the Goddess or on top of the Kalash (sacred pot). After Navratri, break this coconut and consume it as prasad (holy offering). The water inside the coconut, which remains in front of the Goddess throughout Navratri, absorbs special energy, which transmits positivity and energy into your life when consumed after the festival.

"Shantikarmani Sarvatra Tathā Duḥsvapnadarshane | Grahapiḍāsu Cha Ugrāsu Māhātmyaṃ Śruṇuyān Mama ||"

शान्तिकर्मणि सर्वत्र तथा दु:स्वप्नदर्शने | ग्रहपीडासु चोग्रासु माहात्म्यं श्रृणुयान्मम ||

Chant this mantra 108 times, and the next day, immerse the coconut in flowing water. This remedy will help to calm the adverse planetary effects.

During Navratri, couples can offer a coconut to the Goddess together, praying for the blessing of a child. Wrap the coconut in a yellow cloth and place it in front of the Goddess. After Navratri, keep this coconut in your bedroom for a year. This will generate positive energy that may aid in conception. After one year, you can immerse the coconut in water.

Remedy for Protection from Negative Energy

If you feel that someone has performed black magic or witchcraft on you, during Navratri, take a dried coconut, also known as "Gadigola." Fill it with sugar and bury it under a tree. Gradually, ants and insects will begin to eat it, and after about one and a quarter months, you will start to feel that the negative energy around you has dissipated.
