This year Makar Sankranti was stuck in the affair of 14 and 15 January. This year Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 15 January. On the day of Makar Sankranti, there is a tradition of worship to Sun, taking bath in the river ,donation and eating sesame seeds. According to Banarasi Panchang and Mithila Panchang, Makar Sankranti is entering on the night of 14th January. For this particular reason, the festival of Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on 15th January not on 14 January. 


Makar Sankranti festival is celebrated every year in the month of January. On this day Sun enters Capricorn. According to mythological beliefs, on the day of Makar Sankranti, Sun God goes to the house of his son Shani. Shani is the lord of Capricorn and Aquarius. That's why there is a meeting of father and son on this day.


On Makar Sankranti, Kharmas will also end. Last month, due to the Sun moving into Sagittarius, karmas had started . Due to this  auspicious works like marriage,  house warming,mundan  are prohibited in Kharmas. In such a situation, along with Makar Sankranti, the ban on auspicious and auspicious works will also be removed.


On the night of 14th January, Sun will move out of Sagittarius and enter Capricorn. According to Udayatithi, this year Makar Sankranti i.e. Khichdi festival will be celebrated on 15th January. Because there is a tradition of offering Arghya to the rising sun on this day. That's why its holy period and Makar Sankranti's bath and  donation will be celebrated on Sunday, January 15. The muhurat of Sankranti will remain for the whole day. The time till noon is particularly fruitful for donating and taking  baths.


When the Sun  is Uttarayan, then gradually the duration of the day starts increasing. That is why,winter starts decreasing and temperature starts increasing.


Makar Sankranti worship method-


Lord Surya is Uttarayan on the day of Makar Sankranti. With this, auspicious works start from the beginning of the days of the deities. During offering Arghya on the day of Makar Sankranti, water, red flowers, clothes, wheat, Akshat, betel nut etc. are offered to the Sun God. After worship, people donate to the poor or needy. Khichdi has special significance on the day of Makar Sankranti.


Sunday coincidence


Sankranti falls on Sunday, Sunday is the day of Sun God. So when Sun is worshiped in Sankranti it is  more fruitful.  

Worship at the time of sunrise and sunset on the day of Makar Sankranti is very important. Along with this, water should also be offered to the Sun God.


Donating on the day of Makar Sankranti is considered very auspicious and fruitful. It is good to donate sesame-jaggery and khichdi on this day.


It is considered auspicious to offer prayers to ancestors on the day of Makar Sankranti. By doing Tarpan on this day, Pitridosh in the house is removed, along with it, the souls of the ancestors get peace.


By taking a bath in the holy rivers on Makar Sankranti, one gets freedom from sins and attains salvation. The best is Ganga bath. Take bath with Ganges water on this day and sprinkle it in the house as well.


Makar Sankranti Remedies


On the day of Makar Sankranti, take a bath by mixing black sesame and Ganges water in water. It is sure that by doing this one gets the blessings of the God Sun. According to religious beliefs, the blessings of both Sun and Shani Dev are received. Offering Arghya to Lord Surya is considered auspicious on this day.


It is told in the scriptures that worshiping the Sun God at the time of sunrise and sunset on the day of Makar Sankranti proves very beneficial for a person. That's why they offer Arghya at the time of sunrise.


Sun and Saturn worship


It is said that on the day of Makar Sankranti, Saturn's doshas are nullified as the most resplendent Sun is in his zodiac sign. Saturn fades in front of the brightness of the Sun. On the arrival of the father, Shani Dev had worshiped the Sun God with black sesame, due to which his house was filled with wealth and grains. 


Because of this black mole is dear to Shani Dev. In such a situation, on the day of Makar Sankranti, you should also worship Sun and Shani Dev with black sesame, by this you can get rid of the evil of Shani.


Worship of the sun god with sesame seeds


On the day of Makar Sankranti, after bathing., you should worship Lord Surya Dev with water mixed with sesame seeds. On this day, put black sesame seeds, clean water, akshat, red flowers, sugar and roli in a clean vessel. Then offer it to the Sun God while reciting the Surya Mantra. It is a belief that Sun God is pleased on worshiping with black sesame on this day and like Shani Dev, he also blesses his devotees with wealth and grains.


There is abundance of money in the house


On the day of Makar Sankranti, take a handful of black sesame and throw it on the head of all the family members seven times and throw it towards the north side of the house. By doing this, wealth will be blessed in the house and the economic condition will be strengthened. Along with this, donating black sesame seeds, woolen cloth, jaggery and rewdi is considered auspicious because these are things related to Sun and Saturn.

Mahalakshmi's blessings are received

Take 14 pennies(kaudi) on the morning of Sankranti and bath them with milk mixed with saffron, then clean them with Ganges water and put them in front of Mahalakshmi in a red cloth. 


Then light two lamps, one lamp of ghee and the other of sesame oil. Keep the ghee lamp on the right side of Maa Lakshmi and the sesame oil lamp on the left side. 


After this, prove it by saying Om Sankratyaya Namah[ॐ संक्रात्याय नमः] mantra 14 times by taking cowries in hand. 


After that, at 12 o'clock in the afternoon, pick up the pennies and keep them at the place of wealth like purse, cupboard, store house etc. Then change the place of the lamp as well, keep the right one in the left and the left one in the right place and keep the lamp burning continuously.


In the evening, keep ghee lamp on Tulsi and a sesame oil lamp on the house main gate. By doing this, the grace of Goddess Lakshmi remains and there is no shortage of anything in the house.


How to please Lord Suryadev?


There is a ritual of worshiping Sun and Lord Vishnu on Makar Sankranti. This fast is dedicated to Lord Surya Narayan. On this day offer water, jaggery and rose leaves to God in a copper vessel. 


Consume khichdi of jaggery, sesame and moong dal and distribute it among the poor. Chanting Gayatri Mantra on Makar Sankranti is very auspicious. You can also chant mantras of Lord Surya Narayan.

Peepal worship: 


Worship the Peepal tree on the day of Makar Sankranti. Light a lamp of desi ghee there. Then wrapa raw yarn or Molly  in tree. Remembering your forefathers, donate sesame seeds, rice etc. for their sake too. By doing this, the ancestors are pleased and give blessings for the growth of the progeny. This also fulfills wishes.



Do not do this work even by mistake on the day of Makar Sankranti 


On the day of Makar Sankranti, do not eat leftover or stale food even by mistake. Due to this, more anger and negative energy dominates inside you.


Tamasik food like meat, alcohol, garlic and onion should not be consumed on this day. Only pure food should be taken on Makar Sankranti.


Do not disrespect any poor or helpless person on this special day. Doing so can prove to be dangerous for you. In the scriptures, it has been kept in the category of sin.
