According to the Hindu calendar, Putrada Ekadashi is observed twice a year. The first Putrada Ekadashi fast falls on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha in the month of Paush, while the second Putrada Ekadashi is observed on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan. The Pausha Putrada Ekadashi fast for the year 2023 will be observed on January 2, which is the second day of the new year. During this fast, devotees worship Sri Hari Vishnu, the protector of the world. It is believed that observing this fast brings merits equivalent to performing Vajpayee Yagya and is particularly auspicious and beneficial for those who desire to have children. By observing the fast and worshipping on this day, one can seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

The Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Paush begins on January 1, 2023, Sunday, at 07:11 PM and ends on January 2, 2023, Monday, at 08:23 PM. Therefore, according to the Udaya Tithi, the Pausha Putrada Ekadashi fast will be observed on January 2.

As per the Panchang, on January 2, 2023, which is the day of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi, three auspicious yogas named Siddha, Sadhya, and Ravi will occur. Performing worship during these yogas is believed to yield manifold results.

On this day, special worship is offered to Lord Vishnu. After bathing in the morning, devotees should worship Lord Vishnu using Gangajal (water from the river Ganges), Tulsi (holy basil), flowers, milk, curd, and Panchamrit (a mixture of five ingredients).

The Paush Putrada Ekadashi Vrat holds significance in religious beliefs as observing this fast with devotion and adherence to the prescribed rules is said to bring happiness of having a child. It is also believed that the children of those who observe this fast enjoy good health, and long-pending works find completion.

To attain a child, it is recommended to offer a garland of yellow flowers to Lord Vishnu. Applying sandalwood paste to the deity is also advised, and the garland offered should consist of fresh flowers.

For progress in a child's career, parents can apply saffron tilak (vermilion) on their child's forehead on this day. Additionally, donating yellow-colored clothes to the needy and impoverished is considered auspicious.

To observe the Paush Putrada Ekadashi Vrat for the purpose of having a child in 2023, the following measures can be taken:

  1. You should wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Then, husband and wife should worship Lord Krishna together and offer red and yellow flowers, Tulsi Dal, and Panchamrit to Bal Gopal (Lord Krishna).
  2. The husband, wife, and children should chant the Gopal mantra:
  3. "ॐ देवकी सुत गोविंद वासुदेव जगत्पते। देहि मे तनयं कृष्ण त्वामहं शरणं गत:।।"
  4. After chanting the mantra, partake in the prasad (consecrated food) and conclude the puja.
  5. Engage in acts of charity by donating to and feeding the needy and poor.

Luck can be positively influenced by following certain measures on Ekadashi:

Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu during the day on Ekadashi is believed to be highly beneficial. It helps in removing troubles and fulfilling all desires. Engaging in activities to please Lord Vishnu on this day brings great joy to Goddess Lakshmi, ensuring an abundance of food and wealth in one's life. Turmeric, in particular, is considered significant in the worship of Lord Vishnu, as it is believed to please Him quickly.

To fulfill unfulfilled wishes and attract good luck, follow these steps on Ekadashi:

Purify yourself in the evening and sit on an aasan (a sacred seat) at the place of worship.

Take ground turmeric and mix it with Ganga water to create a paste. Make a swastika symbol on a plate or red cloth using this paste. Light a lamp with pure ghee and place it in the center of the swastika.

Apply turmeric and kumkum (vermilion) tilak to Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, and offer a bit of perfume on cotton wool to Goddess Lakshmi. Women can also apply a kumkum tika to Goddess Lakshmi.

Offer Tulsi (holy basil) to Lord Vishnu. Then, chant the mantra "Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya" at least 108 times. Perform aarti (ritual of worship with a lamp) and express your wishes to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, praying for their fulfillment.

The worship includes the use of the swastika symbol, which is believed to bring happiness, prosperity, wealth, and removes troubles from the household. Therefore, by lighting a lamp on the swastika and worshipping Lord Vishnu, every wish is believed to be fulfilled.
